Logical, Rational, and Reasonable

If it doesn't make sense, my mind cannot comprehend it. It's as simple as that.

Cause and Effect - A discussion

The situation:
You tell me you bought 10 boxes of cereal you don't need and won't eat because they were on sale.

No.

If you say something like this, I am immediately going to be inclined to question, and my first question is WHY???

See, cause and effect works like this: An action (the effect) takes place as a logical response to something (the cause). For example, I ate pita chips and hummus (the effect) because I was hungry (the cause). The hunger caused me to eat chips and hummus. This is logical, rational, and reasonable. (And incidentally it's what is happening to me right this very moment.) :D

However, I purchased cereal that I don't need because it was on sale does not fit the formula. Something being on sale is not a rational catalyst, not only to buy, but to OVERBUY that thing. It does not make sense. Therefore, I must come to the conclusion that this is simply not the reason and that there must be some other motivation behind the impulse bulk-buying. This is when I will begin the interrogation.

"But why did you buy 10? You can't possibly eat all that cereal. So what was the real reason?"

*Were you planning to donate some of them? (That would be a very nice gesture, seeing as how you were able to afford more to donate. I can see this being a logical and reasonable answer.)
The test: "I was able to purchase more cereal than usual for what I would have normally spent on the two boxes I need, therefore, I am able to generously donate some of them." Check.

*Is it Rice Krispies and even though you weren't planning on making treats for everyone you know, you can now do that because they were on sale?
The test: "Rice Krispies treats can be pricy to make in bulk, but now I can because they were priced so low." Check.

The point is, whether it's something purchased on sale, something you did, whatever... there must be some rational reason behind it or else don't bring it to me. If it doesn't make sense, it does not compute, and you may find me with my fists in the air like this:

I should've been a detective. Maybe one day I'll write a post about my unrelenting investigative skills. Maybe I missed my calling.
