See, we took dinosaurs for granted when we were kids. There were very large ones, very small ones, dinosaurs that ate plants, others that ate other dinosaurs. One of the cartoons we grew up with, The Flintstones, brought us one of the most enjoyable half hours of entertainment in our young, carefree days. We laughed and cried with Little Foot and Ducky and all of their friends in The Land Before Time. We first watched them come to life in the most realistic way possible in Jurassic Park - and there learned to appreciate the sheer enormity of these mysterious, foreign creatures. And now, Brian has found a way to re-introduce that love we had for the Stegosaurus, Pterodactyl, and so many of our other favorite dinosaurs in a brilliantly illustrated, witty, informative, and fun-to-read full-color book for the kiddos.I wanted to make a book to share my love for dinosaurs and hopefully inspire a new generation to learn all about these creatures that have captivated the hearts and minds of millions of people. So I compiled a humorous book of facts I could remember."
In order to see this book published and made available to all of us, Brian is asking for our help, and you can do just that in one of two ways:
1) Tell your friends! :) The more people who know about this super cool project, the better!
2) Make a pledge! Ok, so maybe the Supportosaurus wasn't a real dinosaur. But if he were, he most definitely would have made a pledge. ;) If you're not familiar with Kickstarter and how it works, check out this short explanation: "Don't Extinct Me Bro". A pledge of any amount, from $2 on up, is a worthy one. If you pledge as little as $25, you get super fun gifts like a copy of the book, a limited edition dinosaur magnet, a special dinosaur bookmark, a high-resolution PDF of the book, a desktop background, and your name on a special thank you page in the book! Just a little more gets you an autographed copy of the book! :D But don't delay, act today! This Kickstarter fundraising project ends at 12:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday, July 1.
Now, I'm very... let's say... careful... about where and how I spend my very hard-earned money. (I can almost hear some of my close friends snickering... no, parsimonious is not the word. Would the peanut gallery kindly hold their comments until the end of the post...) Most hard-working people keep an eye on their pennies, I think. But when scientists try to wipe our memories of certain dinosaurs that we grew up loving (like the Brontosaurus, for example), and along comes a buddy who is a gifted comic artist, an all-around funny, good guy, and someone who is brave enough to put his idea out on the line in the name of trying to do a good thing - save those memories for the next generation - then I can't help but get behind him and support.
Check it out, think about it, tell your friends. Support imagination and the continuation of what we remember from childhood. Show that Triceratops how much you loves him. :)
I didn't realize Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus were synonymous... They'll always be Brontosauruses to me.
ReplyDeleteI've also been suspicious of the Brontosaurus name, even though I grew up knowing that name as a kid, once I found out that the first skeleton they named Brontosaurus had the wrong skull.
ReplyDeleteSo... I'll admit.. i was a bit of a noob with the dino names... I knew Triceratops, T-Rex, Brontosaurus (haven't you had those "Brontosaurus Beef Ribs" before??) and Stegasauraus... That was it... This "Supportasaurus" you talk about... i dunno. Good Luck Brian!
